Maldives announces readiness to resume ties with Iran

Tehran (ISNA) – The Republic of Maldives announced its readiness to resume ties with Iran, as embracing Tehran-Riyadh agreement.

“The Republic of Maldives welcomes a trilateral joint statement between Saudi Arabia, the Islamic Republic of Iran and China in which reopening the embassies and respecting the independence of the countries were emphasized,” according to the website of Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Maldives.

The Foreign Ministry wrote on its statement, “Based on the positive and pleasant development, the Republic of Maldives has made a decision to announce its readiness to resume ties with Iran”.

The Foreign Ministry of Maldives had previously claimed that the Islamic Republic of Iran has adopted policies particularly in the Persian Gulf that are “harmful” to the region. The Ministry has cut off its relations with Iran since 2016.
