Ending dominance of dollar in economic, trade exchanges accelerates: Shamkhani

Tehran (ISNA) – Russian President’s Special Aide Igor Levitin, who is on a two-day visit to Tehran, met with Iran’s secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani on Sunday.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on implementing agreements between the two countries in various economic and banking fields, especially speeding up the implementation operation of the North-South Corridor.

Expressing his satisfaction with the level and volume of economic cooperation between Russia and Iran, Shamkhani stressed the adoption of short-cut solutions to accelerate the implementation of joint economic projects.

He mentioned the finalized initiatives between the two countries in the field of monetary and banking transactions in order to finance joint projects as an effective model in the field of thwarting the illegal sanctions of the West and said, “The path that started to reduce the influence of the dollar in regional and international economic exchanges will limit the dominance of the West over the world economy to the minimum”.

Describing the completion of the North-South Corridor and the expansion of transit cooperation between Iran and Russia as an important part of the joint projects of the two countries, Shamkhani noted, “The corridor has a decisive role in changing the geometry of goods transit in the region”.

Igor Levitin, for his part, said, “Russia is ready to invest in different sectors of Iran’s economy including steel, oil and petrochemicals”.
