Opening of new chapter in relations between Iran, Indonesia

Tehran (ISNA) – Mahdi Safari, Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy, described the choice of Indonesia for the first visit of our country’s president to the ASEAN region as a sign of the importance of the relations between the two countries and stated that Indonesia, as the most populous Muslim and a growing country, has a special position in the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Safari, who had traveled to Jakarta a little earlier in order to make preparations for the president’s visit, during the last few days met with the members of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce known as Kadin, a group of businessmen interested in cooperation with our country, the deputy minister of health of Indonesia, the deputy speaker of the Indonesian parliament and the head of the president’s office and participated in a meeting to review the opportunities and challenges of economic relations between Iran and Indonesia.

Announcing that the 11 documents signed during the visit of the president of our country as well as the talks held at the joint meeting of the presidents of the two countries will be very productive in smoothing the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, Safari emphasized that now one of the main duties of the executives of various institutions is to make serious efforts to realize the visions of the presidents of the two countries and to implement the signed documents accurately and completely.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister, while emphasizing the importance of expanding trade relations with ASEAN countries in the economic diplomacy of the 13th administration, called Indonesia a growing country with a very understanding people interested in the history and culture of Iran and expressed his confidence that this trip will open a new chapter in the relations between Iran and Indonesia.

Safari described the economic opportunities for the two countries as numerous and diverse, given the capacities and high economic capabilities of the two countries, and said that we are trying to increase the volume of commercial exchanges between Iran and Indonesia to an acceptable level.

Safari added that on Wednesday, the second day of the president’s stay in Jakarta, the Iran-Indonesia Economic Forum will be held with the presence of a large number of Indonesian businessmen and industrialists.

He considered this forum to be a very good opportunity to exchange ideas and plan the commercial and economic opportunities and capacities of the two countries in a direct meeting between Indonesian businessmen and industrialists with the president of our country and stated that on the sidelines of this forum, an exhibition of the latest knowledge-based and scientific achievements of our country will be established in the fields of science and technology and medical equipment.
