Mayor of Tehran departs for Brussels

Tehran (ISNA) – The mayor of Tehran, Alireza Zakani headed to the Belgian capital, Brussels on Sunday to participate in the Metropolis World Congress.

Deputy of Financial and Urban Economics of Tehran Municipality, Lotfollah Forouzandeh and head of the Urban Planning and Architecture Commission of Tehran City Council, Mehdi Abbasi are accompanying the mayor of Tehran in this visit.

Metropolis World Congress is an international non-governmental organization that operates with non-profit goals and without political affiliation.

Management and major issues of large cities and metropolitan areas are at the focus of the event. This congress is also part of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) organization.

The association was founded in 1984 at the initiative of the Paris Municipality and began its work in Montreal, Canada in 1985. The main goal of Metropolis World Congress is to promote sustainable urban development in large cities in order to improve the quality of life of citizens through guiding the global network of large cities and monitoring the path of development in metropolitan areas around the world.

This organization, which is an international non-governmental organization, is a coalition of large cities around the world and its main area of activity is metropolitan areas management.

Tehran Municipality joined the Metropolis World Congress in 1992, and the cities of Tehran, Mashhad, and Tabriz are members of this association.
