Kanaani: We not confirm temporary agreement/ Exchanging messages underway through mediators
Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani said that negotiations for temporary agreement or any new arrangements as an alternative for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) cannot be confirmed, while emphasizing that JCPOA is one of the Iranian diplomatic issues not the whole one.
Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Kanaani declared, “Our stance about the JCPOA and the negotiations process is clear. The Islamic Republic of Iran is pursuing the policy of neutralizing sanctions and it has never left the diplomatic process with the aim of lifting sanctions”.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has never left the negotiations table and it has constantly shown its readiness. The principle policy of 13th Iranian government towards the JCPOA is that it is one of the diplomatic issues of Iran, not the whole one,” he added.
In case of reviving the JCPOA, Kanaani made it clear that, “Exchanging messages through mediators including Oman have been done and are underway now as well. Iran is using all facilities for securing its people’s interest. We have welcomed Oman’s initiative in this matter and have used its potentials as a friendly country”.
When asked about the process of releasing Iranian frozen assets and the reports published over the case, the spokesman stated, “This issue is on our agenda as an important case and we will continue to follow it in different ways”.
Nasser Kanaani somewhere else in his speech noted, “The Islamic Republic of Iran’s policy towards Azerbaijan is not provoking tensions, but its policy is de-escalating tensions within the framework of friendly ties of both countries and returning the relations to its natural path. Moreover, we have reached positive outcomes in case of controlling tensions between both countries in the light of diplomatic measures taken by two Iranian-Azerbaijani sides”.
He went on to say, “The embassy of Saudi Arabia in Tehran and the consulate of the country in Mashhad will be reopened in the near future as necessary preparations have been done in this matter,” while announcing that Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud would pay an official visit to Tehran soon.
Kanaani said of allegations made over sending Iranian weapons to Russia to use in Ukraine war, “We deny any claims about exporting Iranian weapons to Russia for using in Ukraine war. Defensive cooperation of Iran-Russia takes precedence over Ukraine war and nobody can doubt this cooperation. Of course, this is every country’s right to cooperate with others under its own interest and international rules. As we have repeatedly stated, Iran is not a party in Ukraine war and we are not sending weapons to Russia to be used in Ukraine war”.
Regarding the latest development of Iran- Bahrain, he said, “As we have said before, we welcome expanding ties with neighboring and regional countries”.
“Bahraini officials have announced their readiness in this case and we welcome such expansion of ties with neighboring and regional countries,” the Iranian spokesman added.
