Rasouli wins gold, Haddadi silver in Hangzhou discus throw
Ehsan Haddadi and Hossein Rasouli competed with their opponents in discus throw contests in Hangzhou Asian Games on Monday.
There were 11 athletes in the discus throw final. Hossein Rasouli was a surprise in his debut in games and won the gold medal with a record of 62:04 meters. Ehsan Haddadi also from Iran won the silver medal with 61.82 meters throw.
After setting the record of 61.82 meters, Haddadi, who was expecting a gold medal turned to the camera and addressed the people of Iran and said, “The previous four medals were for you and the fifth one is for God.” But his countryman Rasouli threw 62:04 meters, 22 cm more than Haddadi’s throw, and clinched the gold medal.
Haddadi won the gold medals in the discus throw in the previous four editions of the Asian games, but he won the silver medal in his presence in the event.
