Iran FM meets Venezuelan counterpart in Geneva

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian held talks with his Venezuelan counterpart Yvan Gil Pinto during which the two top diplomats discussed issues of mutual interest between Tehran and Caracas.

Amir-Abdollahian referred to his recent visit to Caracas and the good talks with his Venezuelan counterpart and the country’s president, expressing hope that the implementation of bilateral agreements will move ahead smoothly.

The Iranian foreign minister extended President Ebrahim Raisi’s warm greetings to Venezula’s President Nicolas Maduro. He also invited the Venezuelan foreign minister to visit Iran.

Referring to Iran’s and Venezuela’s displeasure with the application of double standards by some countries regarding the issue of human rights, Amir-Abdollahian said that Venezuela has an important mission in the group of Friends of the United Nations Charter in terms of countering such approaches.

In the meeting, the Venezuelan foreign minister for his part described Iran and Venezuela as very close friends, saying, “After your recent visit to Caracas, we took fresh steps forward.”

Pinto stressed that Venezuela is determined to strengthen relations with Iran in all fields, including oil, energy, economy and trade.

Pinto further thanked Amir-Abdollahian for inviting him to Tehran and expressed hope that he will be able to travel to Iran in order to strengthen consultations and implement mutual agreements regarding cooperation between the two countries.

Pinto also thanked and appreciated Iran’s support for Venezuela’s role in the Friends of the United Nations Charter group.

At the end, he asked Amir-Abdollahian to give the regards of the president and the people of Venezuela to the Iranian president.

In the meeting, various issues pertaining to political, parliamentary, economic, commercial, industrial and energy cooperation between Iran and Venezuela were discussed.

For the matter, Amir-Abdollahian and Pinto agreed to plan and make joint trips and meetings between the delegations of the two countries.
