Fifty Meteorological Synoptic Stations in Iran added to GBON
Tehran (ISNA) – With fifty new Meteorological Synoptic Stations adding to the Global Basic Observing Network (GBON), now there are 126 international meteorological stations in Iran.
Fifty meteorological synoptic stations of Iran were added to the Global Basic Observing Network (GBON), the head of Iran meteorological organization (IMO) and Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Sahar Tajbakhsh, informed.
Sahar Tajbakhsh stated that the initiative is meant to improve the temporal and spatial resolution of land surface observation data and fill the gaps in global observing network.
With the addition of these stations to the global observing network, the quality of atmospheric forecasts in numerical models will be improved, she added.
Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development further explained that the new international meteorological stations are located in Provinces including Tehran, Qom, Mazandaran, Alborz, East Azerbaijan and Sistan and Baluchistan.
Previously, about 76 international meteorological stations operated in Iran, and with the addition of these new stations, the number of stations under GBON increased to about 126 stations.
Currently, about 3,520 stations are monitoring Iran’s meteorological conditions, she pointed out.
