Iran, Japan hold 30th session of political consultations

Tehran (ISNA) – The 30th meeting of political consultations between the Iranian and Japanese Ministries of Foreign Affairs was held in Tehran.

In the meeting which lasted for three hours, the delegations of the two countries, headed by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ali Bagheri and Yamada Shigeo, the senior political deputy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, discussed various issues in Iran-Japan relations in the light of global developments.

Referring to the various capacities for cooperation between the two countries, Bagheri said, “In addition to securing the interests of the two nations, the promotion of cooperation between Tehran and Tokyo sets the stage for peace and stability and does not threaten the interests of any side.”

He pointed to the historical backgrounds of the two countries in the Asian Continent, adding, “The recent developments in the relations between the countries of the Persian Gulf region showed that restoring the Asian identity will bring peace and stability to the region and even the world.”

The Iranian deputy foreign minister highlighted the recent crimes committed by the Zionist regime in the occupied territories, emphasizing the necessity of taking deterrent measures by all governments, especially the Western ones.

“Outright condemnation of these crimes is the least that can be done in defense of the oppressed people of Palestine and the liberation of human rights from the captivity of the interests and policies of some Western powers.”

In the meeting, the senior Japanese official also highlighted the friendship of the two nations and the relations based on mutual respect between the governments of Iran and Japan.

He pointed out the capacities of promoting bilateral relations and stated that Japan is determined to expand and consolidate its ties with Iran beyond bilateral relations to cover regional and international arenas as well.
