Caspian seal under siege of threats; 62 carcasses observed on Gilan and Mazandaran coasts

The Caspian seal, the only native marine mammal of the Caspian Sea, has faced a growing array of environmental and human-induced threats in recent years — including declining food resources, pollution, fishing and disease. Meanwhile, an increase in observed carcasses of this species along Iran’s northern coasts has raised further concerns about the status of its population.
