good news iran: 16th round of Astana talks to be held in Kazakhstan
Tehran (ISNA) – The 16th round of international talks on Syria within the framework of Astana Format will be held in Kazakhstan’s capital city of Nur-Sultan on Wednesday with the participation of delegations from Iran, Russia, Turkey, the Syrian government and the opposition.
On the first day of the meeting, Iranian delegation heading senior assistant to Iranian Foreign Minister in Special Political Affairs Ali-Asghar Khaji held meetings with Syrian, Russian and Turkish delegations as well as UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir O. Pedersen.
During the meetings, the necessity of efforts in the field of political stability in Syria, holding presidential elections in Syria, holding the sixth meeting of the Syrian Constitutional Committee in Geneva, the issue of border crossings, the US’ sanctions against Syria as well as the issue of detainees and other related issued were discussed.
In these meetings, Iranian delegation also announced its stances toward fighting against terrorism, humanitarian aid and the continuation of US’ sanctions against Syria.
