The Need for a Comprehensive Plan to Develop Khuzestan’s Cultural Heritage

Javad Vahedi, Deputy for Parliamentary, Legal, and Provincial Affairs at the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism, emphasized the necessity of formulating a comprehensive and specialized plan for the cultural heritage sector in Khuzestan during the ceremony honoring the outgoing and introducing the new Director General of Cultural Heritage of Khuzestan in Ahvaz on Wednesday.

According to goodnewsagency, Vahedi pointed out that in the first to sixth development plans, adequate attention was not given to the fields of culture and heritage. However, with the efforts of the government and parliament, two comprehensive chapters have been dedicated to this sector in the seventh development plan.

He added that the government is pursuing the implementation of the seventh plan based on national consensus and expects the directors general to align their operational areas with the provisions of this law, as it precisely corresponds to the duties of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts.

Vahedi also noted that Khuzestan is one of the prominent provinces in the country in social, cultural, and resistance fields and holds a significant position in cultural heritage and tourism. The province is home to 2,595 nationally registered historical sites, five World Heritage sites comprising 17 individual sites, and four nationally recognized handicraft cities.

He stressed the importance of developing expert plans and allocating necessary funds for the restoration and revival of historical monuments and called for specialized meetings to finalize four- and five-year development programs.
